WordPress Upgrade Woes

I have tried many different content management and blogging systems. None of them have impressed me with their ease of use and functionality nearly as much as WordPress.  I really like wordpress – the price is right and the product is good.  It’s a fully featured package with as much functionality as you want, and if you don’t find the functionality you need, you can always write it in, in the form of a plugin.  Kudos WordPress.

I run a slightly older version of wordpress, 2.05 to be exact, and I thought it might be a good idea to upgrade to the latest beast.  I did some reading and lo, I find this; http://wordpress.org/development/2007/03/upgrade-212/ Yikes!

The only reason I didn’t immediately upgrade to 2.11 when it came out was because my current install of mysql is old and needs upgrading.. Again, I’ve been meaning to do it but I just haven’t yet.  Now I’m tending towards “If it aint broke, don’t fix it”. I don’t want any of my stuff crashing due to a upgrade of my home page.. Especially not some of my money making sites.. that wouldn’t be good at all..

Now I think its awesome they found and repaired this exploit in very short order – but still.  I can’t help but feel a touch nervous about installing software due to things like that.  I really hope they catch the guy who did it, though I don’t know what kind of repercussions there would be.

The FBI are way too busy to bother helping the lowly open community over something like this.  Basically unless you’re Microsoft or some other major company that lost a lot of money, you’re out of luck as far as their concerned.. they just don’t have the man power..
