		<description>Hi Brian,

I don&#039;t know that I have much of an answer for you to be completely honest.. All ajax development I have learned I have done so by looking at what other sites have done and sorting it out.

I will say use firebug for darn sure, as it will make your life much easier.

My friend Shawn (http://www.frozen-o.com/blog/) is currently writing an Advanced Ajax book for Prenhall and he recommended &quot;Understanding Ajax&quot; by Joshua Eichorn

And while that&#039;s probably a good book, really your best friend is already right in front of you. =)</description>

		<description>Hello Jason!

Congrats on your getting married! I hope all goes well for you both in days to come!

My main reason for writing was I found you postong on the DOM Scripting.com blog and found that I agree with you on every point you made regarding the whole Ajax Vs. Flash argument. Having created things (as well as full sites) in Flash, it&#039;s a nice tool, and it has it&#039;s place. But if I&#039;m trying to reach a wider audience then I want to know the tools that will allow me to do that.

I was wondering if you could tell me what books you have or what sites you would recommend someone who&#039;s looking to learn Ajax. I have the Bulletproof Ajax book, and it&#039;s a start. But, if you&#039;ve seen that book, it&#039;s not a thick book at all.

I don&#039;t know JavaScript, but know a bit of ActionScript (thanks to Flash), and I know that it&#039;s based loosely on JavaScript (mainly in syntax).
So I guess I have somewhat of an understanding about how the script should flow. But I could really use some advice as to where to go online or what books to get, so I can really get in and wrap my head around it.

I’m going to re-do my own website, and I would like to add some interactivity that I thought I’d be able to achieve with Flash, but cannot without re-publishing the whole .swf again (ugh!)

In short, any assistance you could give me regarding Ajax, DOM Scripting, JavaScript would be great and graciously accepted.

Thanks!

Sincerely,
Brian K. James
