So I had stated previously that I was tired of my original iPhone and that would be getting the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 when it came out some time later this year.   That was before I heard/read about Google’s offering; the Nexus One.

I weighed all the numbers and researched all the sites and came to the conclusion that the only thing the X10 had over the Nexus One was the price tag.   From what one site was guessing the SE offering was going to be pretty pricey.  Plus, SE has done a lot to customize their interface but I think they are over doing it a tad.  It looks cool, sure but every video I watched showed the interface to be laggy and/or buggy.  And while I’m sure it was still very early in their development cycle it still put me off.

The Nexus One had all the features I wanted in a modern package, using a new modern OS with all the amenities at what I figure is a reasonable price.  Plus, it’s built by Google who employ developers and engineers who are just as geeky as I am, so I was pretty sure it would be good.  I wasn’t disappointed.

SE Xperia X10

SE Xperia X10

On June 27th, 2007 (shortly after I got married) the iPhone came out.. I sort of waffled back and forth as to whether or not to get the iPhone or the N95..  The decision was very much made for me when they announced the SDK for the iPhone back in January of 2008, and I got one a day or two later..  I found out that the iPhone wasn’t all hype and that I seriously made the right choice.. The N95 is a good device but now that I have handled both, I can say that the iPhone was superior in the one way that mattered the most;  the interface.

I continue to use just about all of the features of my iPhone on a daily basis and can honestly say it’s one of the most useful tools I have ever owned..  I have loved this device.. When the 3G iPhone came out I briefly had some unfaithful thoughts and considered upgrading but to be honest I just didn’t feel the improvements were enough to warrant the cost even though it was only $200..  I passed..   Then the 3Gs came out and again, I didn’t see the advantage.. Sure a few extra go faster stripes, but just not that big of an improvement..  Pass again..

With each iteration of the OS, they continue to upgrade the first generation device in lock step with the later generations which I felt was a really good thing to do.  I personally believe that you should never, ever cripple your hardware through software.   If a device can do a thing, it should be allowed to do a thing..  And it appeared they weren’t crippling their older device just so you would upgrade… Until it became apparent that they were doing just that..

photoPosting from an iPhone application. So far so good!

Adding a photo of one of my cats to see how it turns out.

Updated from home:

After fiddling with the new iPhone Wordpress application for a while (AppStoreLink) it seems to do the job, although its extremely light on features.

For an application that is designed to post quickly and easily, I think it fits the bill. But if you want to do anything even as mundane as align a photo or style your post — you’re out of luck.

It really feels more like a quicky twitter application than a true blog posting tool and that’s unfortunate. I can honestly say I will likely never use it again to “publish” content unless they give us more power. However I can see it as a rather useful tool to submit stuff as a quickly draft while you’re out on the road that you’ll then add more content to once you get to a computer..

I also fully realize that this is a 1.0 product and there is a lot of room for growth. The guys at automattic have done a good job here.. It will be interesting to see where it goes.

3G iPhone

3G Iphone HotnessThere is no two ways about it, Steve Jobs is a pretty smart fellow, and the latest iPhone hotness just proves it.

Lets be completely honest here, the hardware upgrades aren’t that great though. I mean its an improvement, but its not a super vast improvement.. The 2 major things the new hardware brings to the table are 3G networking, and GPS. Both of which for me mean very little.

My current iPhone’s 2G networking works great for me. I mean so what if it takes 60 seconds to load a webpage instead of 30 seconds.. (Or 59 to 23 or whatever it was.. ) I just don’t mind waiting that couple extra seconds.. its not that big of a deal.

As some of my close friends know, I have been shopping for a new cellphone for a while now. And those same folks will tell you that not just any phone will do, I very much prefer a “convergence device.”

iPhoneA single device that does a bunch of different stuff — My very own “tri-corder” if you will. I had been using a Sony Ericsson P910a that for the most part I was happy with, but it had some limitations that annoyed me and kept me from really using it to it’s full potential. One of the big ones being the lack of Wi-Fi and the need for a stylus. But I get ahead of myself;
