Still, SOME knowledge can be transposed from the guitar to the violin and viceversa. A guitar is basically a big violin with frets to make easier to nail the notes. The scales will have similar fretboard positions. Violin is way more difficult and demanding though, to get some decent sound from it. Still, if you are interested in playing the violin by all means go for it. I started playing the guitar because a sax was too expensive for me at the time, and even if I enjoy a lot playing the guitar I always have that "sax" thorn somewhere at the back of my brain... Pal playing music…gotta hear that!! ;D

I'd start with a Spanish/classical/nylon-string guitar. Or electric. Unlike piano, with an electric guitar, you can get instant gratification from 3 chords and the truth.
