You still have to sign up with AT&T, though...that price just seems too high for me. I wouldn't switch if they gave iPhones away.

Well, I will say this. $199 for the next version of the phone that originally was hailed as a marvel of technology.

$199 guys. I mean, that's almost free!

I have to agree with Jason on this one. When I took some flying lessons, GPS even seemed unnecessary, unless flying with low or no visibility. When taking a train across the country, I saw a guy who had linked up a GPS device to his laptop in order to plot out the route taken by the train, and put a dot for the current location on the map. That seemed impressive at the time, but I could figure out the same thing by looking out the window. :-)

Yeah I realized as I was typing it that saying "REAL GPS device" was the wrong way to put it.. Its nice that the n95 has one and that now the new iphone has one, but I still am not sure I see the real value.

"If you were out in the woods, and needed a GPS antenna, you’d likely get a REAL GPS device that gives true coordinates.. etc.."

To be fair, the device inside of the new iPhone IS a real GPS device that does indeed interface with satellites and give/receive true GPS coordinates. It is not significantly different from the one in my phone, actually.

You're thinking of the Google Maps tower thing, which gen 1 iPhones can do. The Gen2 iPhones can probably do that, also, but they do come with a genuine GPS device built in as well.
